December - Newsletter 10 (December 4th 2012)

Dear Parents/Carers,

The PTA Christmas Fair was a huge success raising over £2500. Thank you to everyone who came and supported and to everyone for all the prizes and cakes and bottles etc. beforehand. A huge thank you to everyone who organised and helped – we could have definitely done with a few more pairs of hands during the fair but you all did brilliantly! We will now be able to install the new library over the Christmas holidays  - what a fantastic Christmas present for the children and school, thank you all again.

We have also been raising a lot of money for charity recently with the Children’s Charity Sales raising an amazing total of  £515.22 and supporting the following charities chosen by the children: Cancer Research, RSPCA, Protect our Puffins, Dogs Trust, MS Society, Children in Need, Oxfam, Seashell Trust, NSPCC, Princess of Wales Hospital, Whizz Kidz, Guide Dogs, MacMillan Cancer Support, Docstan, Beachwood Cancer Support, World Wildlife Fund, Red Cross, Valley School, Help for Heroes, McDonalds Hospital Charity and the Alzheimers Society. Well done to all the children who took part. Our Children in Need events also raised a fantastic £552 and our total for Movember and Wear Pink is at £224 so far, giving us a grand total of £1313 raised for charity in November. Thank you for all again for all of your support.

There are some great photos of these charity events on the school website in the ‘School Events’ section.

Nativity at the Church – We will all be walking down to Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church on Friday (7th December) to watch the Rhema Theatre Company perform ‘No Room at the Inn’. Please make sure, as always in this cold wet weather, that your children have a warm waterproof coat on Friday. Thank you!

Christmas Post Box - The school Christmas Post Box is now available for Christmas cards – please make sure that the envelope has a full name and class on it. Sending Christmas cards is very worthwhile writing practice, particularly for the younger children

Infant Christmas Show – the evening performance on Tuesday 11th December starts at 6:00pm. Please could Year 2 children arrive at school at 5:30pm and we will get them ready in their costumes at school. Children in Reception and Year 1 will bring their costumes home on Monday 10th and should arrive at school on the 11th at 5:45pm in their costume. If your child goes to Junior Sports Stars we recommend picking them up early at 4:15pm so that you can get them home and then ready to come back to school for the times above. There will be some extra tickets available for both the Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening performances available to buy from Friday this week (max 2 extra per family) – please send the slip at the end of the newsletter in to school and we will allocate tickets on a first-come first-served basis.

Junior Carol Concert – The Junior Carol concert starts at 7:00pm on Thursday 13th December. Children should arrive at the church in school uniform at 6:45pm. Thank you!

Well done to Millie, Emma, Isabelle, Delaram and Olivia who sang beautifully at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church’s Carol Concert and did the school proud.

Our Lane End Tea Towels (which have a picture of all of the children drawn by themselves on them) have been selling well, but if you haven’t got one yet there is one last chance to get them before Christmas. Please fill in the slip at the bottom of this newsletter and return it to school in an envelope with the correct change or a cheque payable to ‘Lane End Primary School PTA’. Thank you!

French Christmas – The children in Classes 2 to 6 enjoyed a special French Christmas lesson on Monday when ‘The Language People’ came in to school. They learnt French Christmas vocabulary and phrases, played French Christmas games and sang a French Christmas song. Magnifique!
