December - Newsletter 12 (17th December 2012)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for all of your support over 2012 – we wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Christmas Performances

The children performed brilliantly at our Nativity (Christmas with the Aliens) and Carol Concert – well done all! I was very proud of all of the children in both the Infants and Juniors – they did a great job. Thank you again to the staff for all of their hard work putting the performances together.

Thank you again for all of your support with learning lines, costumes and learning songs – it’s much appreciated.

With hindsight, we appreciate that it was hard to see some of the children in the Nativity, particularly those children singing at the back, so we will sort it out next year so that all can be seen – either with new seating arrangements or a spot on stage, I hope that helps. We certainly want everyone to have the chance to see all of the children’s fantastic efforts.

There are some lovely photos on our website of the run up to Christmas at Lane End showing, among other things, our Christmas crafts, the Christmas Fair, the Carol Concert and Nativity – go to ‘School Events’. The VLE also has some videos of both performances – just click on Santa on the front page to see them. There are some photos below too.

Parents’ School Improvement Plan – just to let you know that there is a Parent’s version of our current School Improvement Plan and feedback from our last Parents’ Questionnaire available in the ‘Parents’ section of the website. Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback. It’s great to have confirmation that you appreciate all of the hard work that we do but also great to have ideas and ways to improve – we do listen and take it on board. Two aspects of the School Improvement Plan I’d like to mention here are: ‘Reading for Pleasure’ and our ‘Science and Engineering Week’. We are going to do more work with the children in the New Year on the value of reading and helping them all to enjoy reading. Reading is such a vital part of life that brings so much and it’s definitely worthwhile taking the time to enjoy some books with your children over the holidays – both hearing them read and reading to them, no matter how old they are.

Mr Vallance is going to be leading our Science and Engineering Week in March – we’ll let you know more nearer the time but if you have any skills or experiences that you think may be helpful for the week please get in touch with Mr Vallance – we’re looking to create Science and Engineering challenges based around the theme ‘Move It’. It should be great educational fun!

Toy day – Children can bring a sensible toy or game to play with on Friday. It will be their responsibility to look after it.

Reminder: School Christmas Dinner tomorrow (Tuesday) and children’s Christmas parties on Wednesday or Thursday, see the last newsletter for details (also available on the school website).

We break up after school (3:15pm) on Friday 21st December and the children are due back in school on Tuesday 8th January 2013.

Happy Christmas!

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
