December - Newsletter 10 (17th December 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas is Coming…

The children have been enjoying the run up to Christmas with plenty of festive fun and activities. I have put a section on the school website (in ‘Our School’ – ‘School Events’) showing some of the highlights including our Infant Nativity and Junior Carol Concert.

Swimming Gala Success

Well done to our Year 4 and Year 5 swimmers who did a fantastic job representing the school at the Stockport Schools Swimming Gala on Tuesday. We came 4th out of 13 schools with lots of individual and group success including winning the final relay race (by a minute and a half!) which involved all of the children. Our Year 4 swimmers were: Vika, Adam, Toby and Ava and our Year 5 swimmers were: Aaron, Emma S, Megan H and Alfie. Well done all!

Friday – the infants (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) are going on their trip to the Lowry on Friday to see ‘We’re All Going on a Bear Hunt’. They should arrive in school as normal on Friday and wearing school uniform and will be back in school for their lunch.

All children (infants and juniors) can bring in a sensible toy or game on Friday which they’ll be able to play with for part of the day. It is the children’s responsibility to look after their toy so nothing too precious please! Any electronic devices etc. must only have age appropriate games on them and mobile phones don’t count as toys.

Thank you for the support for our non-uniform day in aid of Save the Children. We raised a fantastic £307.56. Thank you as well for the kind donations of presents for Mission Christmas which will go to deserving children in Greater Manchester to help make a happier Christmas – we had 88 presents in total which is a fantastic contribution.

Road Safety Competition

We had a lot of excellent entries to our Road Safety design a cycle helmet competition. Our winners and runners up were Olivia in Year 2, Rex in Reception and Leo in Reception for the infants and Amelia in Year 5, Rosie in Year 3 and Caitlin in Year 4 for the Juniors. Adam in Year 4 also won a prize for the best model. The children received Halfords vouchers and a bag of goodies. All children in the school received a high-vis wrist band which are particularly useful in the darker mornings and evenings. Thank you to Mr Bellfield (Ruby’s dad) from Thorneycroft solicitors and the Brain Injury Group for the prizes and support.

Thank you also to Ms Dyson (Kaitlyn’s mum) and Specsavers who are also sponsoring Road Safety Week and have provided school with a set of high-vis jackets to use on school walks and trips etc.

The main message of Road Safety Week 2014 is ‘look out for each other’ and is about everyone, especially drivers, showing patience, consideration and responsibility towards other road users. Pedestrians and cyclists are also being encouraged not to take chances, and make sure they can be seen.

We break up after school on Friday 19th December and the children are due back in on Tuesday 6th January (as the Monday is an INSET day).

Thank you for all of your support during 2014. From everyone at Lane End, we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

Yours sincerely,
