December - Newsletter 10 (7th December 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas Cards – Our Christmas postbox is now available in the school entrance. When children are writing cards to other children, please can they write the child’s full name and class on the envelope. Writing cards is good writing practice, particularly for the infants.

Well done to our Year 1 and 2 on an excellent first performance of Lights, Camel, Action! We are looking forward to tonight’s performance (Wednesday 7th) which starts at 5:30pm. Children should arrive at school between 5:00 and 5:10pm – no earlier please - to get dressed and ready in their costumes.

All of the children in Years 4, 5 and 6 who are learning an instrument at school (guitar, flute, clarinet and saxophone) are playing in our Music Concert on Tuesday 13th December in the school hall at 6pm. Please can all of the children arrive at school at 5:40pm to set up their instruments with Mr Gosling and Miss Yates. All parents/relatives of our instrumentalists are warmly invited to come and watch. There will be a collection for the PTA at the end.

Junior children (all children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) should arrive at the church at 6:45pm – no earlier please - for our Junior Carol Concert which starts at 7pm on Thursday 15th December. Parents/relatives of our junior children are warmly invited – no more than 4 people per family so we can all fit in though!  There will be a collection for Millie’s Trust at the end.

Photos/videos – we are happy for you to take photos and videos during our performances and events however please remember that these should only be for your personal use and not shared on social media. Thank you.

Staff News – We are pleased to let you know that Miss Rainey is pregnant. Miss Rainey is likely to take her maternity leave from April. We will appoint the best teacher to cover the maternity leave and let you know when we have made an appointment.

Tennis – well done to our Year 2 tennis team - Dillon, Daniel, Niamh and Sophie – who came first in the Stockport mini-tennis competition, held at Stockport School, beating the other 8 schools in the final. They played brilliantly as a team and we are very proud of their achievement.

Road safety competition – well done to our Road Safety Poster competition winners: Molly (Y6) and Isabelle (Y1) and our runners-up Olivia (Y3), Eleanor (Y6), Luke (Y1),  Daisy (Reception) and Olivia (Y2). We received lots of great entries - thank you to all of the children who took part and to Mr Belfield from Thorneycroft Solicitors, part of the Brain Injury Group, who came to help with the judging and provided the prizes. Please could all motorists and pedestrians heed the advice given by the children in their posters.

Choir – our choir sang beautifully at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church’s Carol Concert on Sunday – thank you to Mrs Stutfield for leading them and well done to all of the children. They will also be singing at our Junior Carol Concert on Thursday 15th December. The choir are making fantastic progress with Mrs Stutfield and Mrs Toyne during their weekly choir practices – the last practice before Christmas is on Tuesday 13th December.

PTA Christmas Fair – a huge thank you for all of the support for our Christmas Fair and to the PTA for the excellent organisation and all of their hard work once again. It was a lovely community event and was our most successful Christmas Fair ever – raising a fantastic £3205 to spend on books to benefit all of the children. Well done all!

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,
