Dear Parents/Carers,

It’s been a very enjoyable and successful term – thank you for all of your support.

Christmas Celebrations

Thank you for all of the support for our Christmas performances and a big thank you to all of our staff and volunteers, the staff at Stockport Music Service and the iSingPop staff who organised and contributed to the different events. Our Year 2’s did us all proud with a wonderful nativity and sang and performed beautifully. iSingPop at the church was a fabulous Christmas celebration for the whole school and community and it was lovely to share it with so many of you. Our choir have been very busy with brilliant performances at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church and St George’s Church in Stockport led by Mrs Stutfield and Mrs Toyne, and our many musicians gave us a lovely Christmas concert in school with Mr Gosling and Ms Yates last night. See some of the highlights here:

From the donations for all of our concerts we raised the £600 needed to pay for the defibrillator which was delivered to school today and is mounted on the wall in the school entrance – thank you. We raised a bit extra too which has been put in a collection tin for Millie’s Trust in the school entrance and is available if you would like to donate any more. The training we have done with them as a staff has been excellent.

There’s always a lot going on in the run up to Christmas. These photos give a little taster of some of the Christmas activities this year:

Mission Christmas aims to ensure as many children as possible wake up with a present on Christmas Day, no matter what their situation. Thank you very much for sending in presents for children living in poverty in Greater Manchester – it is great to see a good response to the appeal. Thank you to Mrs Fry for organising this and taking the presents today.

Swimming Gala – Well done to the children in Year 4 and 5 who took part in the swimming gala yesterday. Out of the 17 Stockport schools which took part our girls team came third and our boys team came sixth – an excellent achievement and all of the children represented the school very well!

PTA – thank you to all of our wonderful PTA led by our super chair Bev Sangster for all of their support again – please do get involved in helping next year if you can (a good new year’s resolution?). It’s a great group of people, everyone is welcome and it really helps the school. The children are enjoying the trim trail and it is a great addition to the school. We’re looking forward to developing our Forest Schools work in the New Year – the Christmas Fair gave us a great start to the fundraising for this. There is a PTA Children’s Disco on Friday 22nd January – put the date on your calendar and there will be a letter home in the New Year. Our first PTA meeting of the New Year is on Wednesday 27th January at 7:30pm – everyone is welcome.

Toy Day – All children (infants and juniors) can bring in a sensible toy or game on Friday which they’ll be able to play with for part of the day. It is the children’s responsibility to look after their toy so nothing too precious please! Any electronic devices etc. must only have age appropriate games on them and mobile phones don’t count as toys!

We break up after school on Friday 18th December and the children are due back in on Tuesday 5th January (as the Monday is an INSET day).

From everyone at Lane End, we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
