February - Newsletter 14 (12th February 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Residentials - Year 6 had a fantastic residential at the Robinwood Activity Centre in Alston from Monday – Wednesday this week. They took part in indoor and outdoor adventurous activities, team challenges and problem solving and showed great courage and determination tackling the many activities such as climbing, giant swing, zip wire, caving, archery, ‘Dragon’s Quest’ and the trapeze. Year 5 are also looking forward to their residential to Scarborough in March where they will be visiting historical sites and museums and taking part in team building challenges. Thank you to the staff who have given up the time to plan and accompany the children on these residentials as they give the children a great educational experience and are excellent for the children’s personal development and character building. A reminder that there is a meeting about the Scarborough Residential on Wednesday 25th February for Year 5 Parents (parents only please).

Cross Country – I am pleased to let you know that Mr Chris Peacock will be able to carry on our Cross Country Club after school on a Friday starting after half term. He accompanied Mr Ward at last week’s club and will be attending with him again tomorrow. Mr Peacock also runs the Lacrosse club on a Monday after school and is an experienced coach and runner.

Parents Evenings – All of our parents evenings are going to be held on Monday 9th March and Wednesday 11th March next half term (rather than some classes having them on Monday and some on Tuesday) – we hope this makes it easier for parents. Monday will be the later night. We hope to see all parents there. Sign up will be from 8am on Tuesday 3rd March.

Payment by Cheque – please could you put your child’s name and class on the back of any cheques you send in to help with our administration. Thank you.

School Crossing Patrol – the council have informed us that the school crossing patrol on Station Road is being moved to a higher priority crossing after half term. This means that the crossing is vacant and the vacancy is being advertised. Please be aware that there is no crossing patrol on Station Road until this vacancy is filled (we will inform you when this is done). Children should use the pedestrian crossing to cross Station Road until this time.

Non-uniform day – as mentioned in the last newsletter we are having a non-uniform day tomorrow to help give a boost to our trim trail fundraising for the PTA. Children can come in non-uniform in exchange for a £1 donation to the PTA – thank you for your support.

Please remember to do your online shopping via the easyfundraising.org.uk website and to choose ‘Lane End Primary School, Cheadle’ as your good cause to help raise money for school. So far we have raised £300 – thank you to everyone who has used the site so far. The money quickly adds up and it doesn’t cost you a penny. Most websites/shops you would buy from online are available.

We’ve had an excellent half term with a lot more exciting learning to come after the holidays. The children break up for half term after school tomorrow (Friday 13th February) and are due back in on Monday 23rd February.

Yours sincerely,
