February - Newsletter 14 (24th February 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term. We have a great deal of learning and fun in store for the children as always and much to look forward to.

We are celebrating World Book Day next Monday (29th February). As mentioned, the children can come dressed as a book character – we will have a competition for the best outfit in each class. If you haven’t thought of a costume already then there are some great ideas at:

http://www.bookaid.org/get-involved/world-book-day/world-book-day-dress-up/

Children could dress up as one of the characters from this year’s free books (available to buy with the World Book Day Voucher from most book shops), which include Kipper, Norm and Star Wars!

As a build up to the event on Monday all classes took part in ‘The Bumper Book Quiz’- testing the children’s knowledge about children’s literature. This was part of a Guinness World Record Breaking attempt for the world’s biggest book quiz. We will find out if the World Record attempt was successful on 3rd March.

The Great Book Swap

World Book Day is all about celebrating the pleasures of reading and this year children can also bring in a book to swap – something they could recommend to others to read. They should bring it in to assembly on Monday morning and as they leave they will put it on our book table in exchange for a token. If they don’t have a book to swap they can bring £2 for a token (the money will go to The Book Bus charity who share quality books with children in schools in Zambia – other donations welcome!). We will timetable classes to come during the day to swap their token for a book or if it is a nice day we will take the tables of books outside at break time.

Parents Evenings are on Monday 21st March and Wednesday 23rd March for all classes apart from Year 3. Monday will be the later night. Year 3 will be holding their Parents Evenings on Wednesday 16th March and Wednesday 23rd March with the 23rd March being the later night. Sign up will be from 8am on Tuesday 8th March – please come into school to sign up or phone if you can’t make it in. We hope to see all parents there.

Clubs – a reminder that football club starts again next Tuesday after school with Mr Toyne and girls football starts tonight after school with Miss Rainey. There is no netball club this Thursday but it will be on again next week. We also have our first cross country race of the half term after school today at Cheadle Catholic Infant School so good luck to all taking part.

Choir – our choir are singing at the Town Hall on Thursday 31st March. Parents of choir members – please return your request for tickets ASAP. The choir are doing a great job rehearsing with Mrs Stutfield and Mrs Toyne and you can see them in action singing ‘Mr Blue Sky’ on our VLE – click on the ‘The Parent Zone’ section. The video does work but it is a large file size so you may need to wait a while for it to start playing! The children will also find the lyrics for their songs in this section so they can practise and learn the songs at home too.

This half term runs from 22nd February to 1st April. The children are also off school for the two Easter bank holidays which are Friday 25th March and Monday 28th March. We break up for the Easter holiday after school on Friday 1st April and then the children are back in school on Tuesday 19th April as the Monday is an INSET day.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,
