January - Newsletter 14 (14th January 2013)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Reception Admissions Reminder– the deadline for applying for a Reception place for 2013/14 is tomorrow (15th January). Any parent wanting a Reception place for their child needs to apply online by this deadline. There is a link from our website to the Stockport Admission’s Site – click on ‘Links’ and then ‘Admissions’.

Scooters and Bikes on the Playground – A reminder that children of any age shouldn’t be riding bikes or scooters on the playground in the morning as it gets very busy and, in the past, we have had children knocked over. Please could children dismount as they get to the school gate – thank you. Also, all children who cycle to school should be wearing a helmet.

Cold Weather – Please make sure that your children have appropriate clothing – coats, gloves, sturdy footwear etc. when the weather is cold. We like the children to be able to enjoy the outside comfortably.

Contact and Medical Details – Please could you return the attached form if you have any updates to your contact details or any updated medical information about your child (allergies, asthma etc.). It is particularly important we have an up-to-date main mobile contact number as we can only link one mobile number per child to our text message system (we use the mobile number of the person you have listed as first contact). We use our text message service as a means of giving quick information to all families or a group of families (e.g. one class) – i.e. information about late return from a class trip, school closure etc.

In the event of emergency school closure (for example, due to bad weather conditions) we will use the text message system and also use the school website to communicate. We always try to minimise any disruption to the children’s education.

Ear-rings – Children should only wear stud ear-rings to school and need to be able to take their ear-rings out for P.E. activities as caught ear-rings can rip the child’s ear. For this reason, we recommend that if you want your child to have their ears pierced you do this before the summer holidays so they can take them out when they return to school and don’t miss any P.E.

Authors in School - We have two authors coming in to school this term to talk to the children about their books and the writing process.

Tommy Donbavand who writes the ‘Scream Street’ books will be in school next Friday (25th January). He will hold a special assembly for the infants and, as his books are mostly aimed at the Junior age, will spend the rest of the day doing workshops with Junior classes. If any of the children have one of Tommy’s books he says they are welcome to bring it in and he will sign it at the end of the day.

Steve Hartley who writes popular books such as ‘Danny Baker’s Silly Olympics’ and has just published ‘Oliver Fibbs Attack of the Alien Brain’ will be coming into school on 15th March. He promises a whole school interactive assembly and then will also be carrying out workshops with some of the classes. We are running this event in conjunction with ‘Simply Books’ in Bramhall and they will be selling some of Steve Harley’s books at school if any of the children want to buy a copy to have signed. We’ll send out more information about this nearer the time.

Class Assemblies (all at 10:10am) – Reception - Thursday 7th February, Class 3 - Thursday 28th February, Class 4 – Thursday 14th March, Class 1 – Wednesday 20th March, Class 6 – Thursday 21st March (Year 2 will hold a Music Festival Performance for parents – more details later, Class 5 will do their second assembly next term).

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg

Medical Conditions

It is crucial that we know about the following medical conditions: Gastrostomy feeds, A tracheostomy, Diabetes, Anaphylaxis, A central line or other long term venous access, Severe asthma that has required a hospital admission within the last 12 months, Epilepsy with rescue medication. Please indicate below if your child has any of these conditions. For these medical conditions we will also ask you to complete an individual health plan for your child which you will be able to discuss with the school nurse.

Other medical conditions that school needs to be informed about: asthma, allergies. We require a completed ‘medicines in school’ form for any medicines that your child needs to take during school time, even if this is just for a short period. We have an ‘inhalers in school’ form which needs to be completed if your child has an inhaler and you need to provide us with an in-date inhaler which can be kept for school use at all times and renewed when necessary. Forms are available from the school secretary or in the ‘Office’ area of our website.

Your child may have other medical conditions you feel we should know about.

Please give details of any medical conditions we need to be aware of including treatment:
