January 2014 - Newsletter 13 (8th January 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

We look forward to an enjoyable and rewarding 2014.

Curriculum

We aim to plan an exciting and stimulating curriculum for your children with a lot of the work linking together in topics or themes. This makes the learning more meaningful for your children as they can make links between subjects. You have the details of your child’s curriculum in the ‘Booklet for Parents’ which you received at the beginning of the school year (or in the reception parents’ pack) – this is a useful reference throughout the year and will help you to help your child. There is also a link to this booklet through the website: www.laneend.stockport.sch.uk. Knowing your child’s theme should help you talk to them about their work. Sometimes there is just one main theme for a term and sometimes more. The themes for this term are listed below:

Class

Theme

Reception

Toys

1

Homes

2

Superheroes

Where did the Victorians go on holiday?

3

Keeping Healthy

Weather Around the World

4

Energy and the Environment

5

6

Rights and Responsibilities

Thank you for supporting your child at home, it really does make a tremendous difference to their education. Children should be reading each night and completing their homework on time. Please also remember to regularly log on to our VLE and the web-based learning tools we subscribe to such as ‘Curriculum Visions’ and ‘Espresso’ to get the most out of the online learning available to your child.

Clubs

A letter about clubs is also coming home this week – please respond by Monday at the latest – thank you!

PTA

We have our first PTA meeting of this term on Thursday (9th January) from 7:30pm – 8:30pm – everyone is welcome. It is also the PTA Disco for children on Friday 24th January – a letter will come home about this soon.

We have updated the PTA Facebook page description to clarify that this page is for current parents of Lane End and the staff rather than other groups / friends associated with Lane End as we have had a couple of adverts from businesses and this isn’t what the page is intended for.

The PTA Facebook page was created to further the excellent work of the PTA and it is there for parents and staff to get information about PTA events to help our fundraising efforts to support our children in school.

Please could we also ask that any issues relating to school be addressed to school directly as usual. Thank you.

An Exciting Term

We have an exciting term planned with special events to look forward to such as World Book Day, Maths Week and much, much more! More details of these events will come home nearer the time. We are also continuing with our ‘Singing school’ work with Christine Nelson and John Henderson who are working with each teacher and class to deliver expert singing and music tuition and continuing our partnership and special French days for Years 2 – 6 with the Language People.

You can see some of the highlights from last term for each class on the school website – click on the ‘Our Work’ section and then on the relevant class.
