Dear Parents/Carers,

Open Evening

It is our Open Evening tonight (Thursday 12th July) from 6pm until 8pm. We would really like to see you all there. It is a great opportunity to look at your child’s work for the year, look around the whole school (not just your child’s classroom – please do have a good look around!) and speak to your child’s class teacher from this year and their teacher for next year.

SATs Results and Teacher Assessments

Nationally, this year children took tests in reading and maths and all other subjects were only assessed by teacher assessment.

Thank you to the staff and parents for all of their hard work too!

Olympic Poetry Competition

We are extending the deadline for our poetry competition until next Monday – so children have one more weekend to have a go and enter! There are some great prizes which have been provided by adidas. All you have to do is write a poem with an Olympic theme and present it on A4 paper. Make sure your name and class is on the back. Good luck!

 Instrument Lessons for Next Year

Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 can learn the guitar, flute, clarinet and saxophone in school. There is a charge for these lessons of £4.50 a week which is a subsidised rate. We will assume that your child wants to carry on with their lessons unless you inform us otherwise and there will be a letter coming home shortly with a reply slip for any parents who would like their child to start learning an instrument in school.

Young Entrepreneurs – Marvellous Mini Market

Well done to our Young Entrepreneurs who went to the Town Hall on Tuesday for the ‘Dragon’s Den’ final. Their trade stall looked fantastic and they answered the judges’ questions very well, showing a great understanding of their business. They nearly sold out of the cakes they were selling too! The children have decided that all of the profit they have made will go to the Wellspring Kitchen who support homeless people in Stockport. Thank you to Mr Vallance for his time and effort with the club too.

Olympic Run

Well done to all of the children who ran to Thorn Grove on our leg of the Schools’ Olympic Baton Relay. The 16 children who took part showed great determination and carried on regardless of the rain and puddles on the way – we even ran all the way back too!

Lane End’s Got Talent

Well done to all of the children who entered Lane End’s Got Talent and thank you to Mrs Lenaghan for her great organisation. We saw a wide array of talents from piano playing to a magic show and, as well as being very entertaining, it was lovely to see the confidence, courage and enjoyment that the children displayed.

Oliver

We are really looking forward to our Junior Production of Oliver! There are some spare tickets available from the office for Junior parents on a first come first served basis. The children will be performing in the evening on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th July and the show starts at 6:30pm. Year 6 children should arrive at school at 6:00pm and Year 3, 4, 5 children at 6:15pm - no earlier please so there is not too much waiting around. Children will bring costumes home on Tuesday and should arrive dressed in costume. The show lasts approximately 1 hour and so should finish at 7:30pm. If no one is coming to watch your child on one of the nights then we will let children out of the Year 3 fire exit next to the shelter – please could you wait there for your child. Thank you for your support.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
