July - Newsletter 25 (12th July 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Junior Sports Day - Thank you to all of the parents and relatives who came to support last Monday – it was a fun morning of sporting team work and competition and the children did brilliantly! We were very lucky to have a lovely sunny morning for it too.

Race to Rio Cycle to School Week – Well done to everybody who took part in our cycle to school week. Our Cycle Chiefs counted 307 journeys by bike last week – an average of 61 a day!  Our slow bike race was a great success on Friday with over 100 children taking part. The children cycled so carefully, balancing as they slowly made their way to the finish line. The photos below capture some of the excitement. Thank you to Mr Vallance for organising the week and the event and to the Year 4 Cycle Chiefs for their help.

Lane End Pet Shop – Our Young Entrepreneurs did us proud at the Town Hall on Friday selling their pet shop goods, including home-made dog biscuits and cat toys, at the Dragon’s Den Trade Stall Final. They impressed the judges with their enthusiasm and business knowledge. A huge well done to them all and thank you to Mrs Titterington for leading the group this year.

Reports – All of the children’s reports are coming home today. It is our Open Evening tomorrow (Wednesday 13th) from 6 – 8pm. We would love to see everyone there. It is a good opportunity to look around the whole school and to speak to your child’s teacher from this year and for next year too. During the Open Evening we have our art gallery in the hall - you can buy your child’s professionally framed picture. We also have a book fair selling half price books for you to browse and stock up for summer reading.

Guitar Assembly – well done to all our guitar players who played in assembly this morning. A reminder that it is our woodwind assembly on Thursday morning at 9:30am and parents/relatives of the children involved are welcome to join us.

New P.E. Kit – please remember that we will start using this in September. The kit consists of the new blue Lane End P.E. t-shirt and blue shorts (plus blue jogging trousers and sweat top/tracksuit top for outdoor P.E.). It is available from our schoolwear partners – Zenith Children’s Wear, Monkhouses and Davensports. You can shop online with Zenith at: http://www.zenithchildrenswear.co.uk/lane-end.html

Parent Pay – everyone should now have their log-on details. Lots of you have already registered – thank you. If you haven’t done so yet, please do follow the instructions in the letter you were given to register your account so you are ready to go with it in September. Mrs Titterington will be available during open evening with further information should you need it.

Sponsored Jog for Sports Relief– Please remember that the children need their P.E. kit in school on Friday for our sponsored jog for Sport Relief. Please help your child to get sponsored for this worthy cause.

If it is too wet on Friday we will find another day to do it before the summer holidays!

Junior Production of ‘Wind in the Willows’ – a reminder that ticket requests need to be in by tomorrow (Wednesday) – from Thursday we will be able to sell any remaining tickets on a first-come first-served basis. Thank you!

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,
