July - Newsletter 25 (14th July 2017)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Key Stage 2 Results 2017

Well done to our Year 6 children who have worked hard and made great progress throughout Year 6 and their time at Lane End. These were challenging tests and assessments and the children have done brilliantly. The results below give one aspect of their learning but the children have also shown great talent, skill, development and progress across the primary curriculum – in their creative development, physical development, broader academic development and their emotional and social development. They are ready and well prepared for high school and we wish them all the best. Thank you to all of the staff for their hard work with the class over the years and to the children’s parents/carers for all of their support as well.

Jenny Meadows – 800m Champion   It was fantastic to have athlete Jenny Meadows in school on Wednesday. She led an inspirational assembly about working hard to achieve your personal best – in athletics and sport but also in school work and all of the challenges we face in life. Thank you to Jenny Meadows and also to Dean Hardman, who works for England Athletics and is Hermione in Year 1’s dad, who organised the assembly. Dean has also offered the free tickets to the Manchester International athletics which were mentioned in the last newsletter (available on our website) – please get your slip back to school soon if you would like to receive these free tickets. The children were enthralled during the assembly and Jenny commented on their excellent behaviour and attitude – she was also very impressed to see so many children choosing healthy ways to travel to school in the morning.

Cycle to School Week

We have had a great take up during our Tour de Lane End Cycle to School Week – well done to everyone who has taken part; cycling to school come rain or shine! Our slow bike race was a fun way to finish off the week today. Thank you to Mr Vallance and his Year 4 commissaires for organising the week and the slow bike race.

Supervision after School - It’s important to remember that bikes/scooters etc. shouldn’t be ridden on the playground after school as it gets very busy and is too crowded – please could parents/carers help with this.

Any children who are walking home from school on their own should leave the playground straight away. If you are supervising children after school please keep a close eye on where they are and stay responsible for them at all times. Everyone should have left the playground by 4:15pm at the latest unless you are waiting for a later club. We understand that people may want to stay for a chat after school in the summer months but it is important that the children are well supervised. Thank you for your help with this.

Parking - Another reminder that no one should park or stop to drop off their child on the zig-zag yellow lines either before or after school. This is very important to keep all of the children safe. The yellow lines have just been repainted and it is very clear to see where you should not park or stop your car. It is better to park further down the road and walk up. Thank you for your help with this.

Alice in Wonderland – the junior children have been doing a great job in rehearsals and we’re really looking forward to next week’s performances. We are all sold out apart from on Tuesday afternoon (starting at 1:45pm) – we have lots of tickets left for this performance and would really like to sell more; so please do pop in to school to buy some extra tickets!

End of Term – we break up after school on Thursday 27th July and the children are due back in school on Tuesday 5th September 2017.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
