July - Newsletter 26 (22nd July 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Young Entrepreneurs 2015 - Well done to all of our Year 3 class who entered the Stockport Young Entrepreneur competition this year with their company ‘Jack Pot Cakes’. Their business was very successful and not only did they make a fantastic £125.85 profit but they also won the ‘Best Trade Stall’ at the Young Entrepreneurs final and Jayden won the competition to design the Young Entrepreneur’s logo. Thank you to Miss Leach, Mrs Davenport, Mrs Gilbert and Mrs Parker for all of their hard work with the children and the parents for all of their support.

Our sporting accolades keep coming this year and we have now been awarded with the School Games Silver Mark which is sponsored by Sainsbury's. The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school. Well done all and to Miss Rainey for leading the sport at Lane End so successfully.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Our Junior children wowed us all with a spectacular performance of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. The Year 6 children took the main roles and the rest of the junior children were our choir and dancers - everyone worked together to put on a great show. There are a lot more photos now available for you to look at on our website (CLICK HERE). Thank you to Mr Toyne, Mrs Batho and the rest of the Junior staff as well as Mrs Stutfield and Mrs Downing for all of their help with the singing and dancing!

Bikeability

Well done to all of our Year 5 and Year 4 children who took part in the Bikeability sessions this week. They learnt about how to ride safely on the road, all took part sensibly and passed the assessment. Badges will be given out this week.

Our Year 1 children were on Cbeebies on Sunday as part of the audience for Swashbuckle – it was a great show and the children looked brilliant in their pirate costumes shouting ‘Arrr!’ You can still see the show on iplayer catch-up (it’s the episode called ‘Mermaids’). Thank you to Mrs Chamberlain for coming in to school on Sunday so Class 1 children and parents could all watch.

Eid Assembly - Well done to Zara and Alicia in Year 4 who gave an assembly about Islam, Ramadan and Eid on Monday as they celebrated Eid last Friday. It is very beneficial that the children are able share information about each other’s religions in this way and the rest of the school listened attentively and answered the girls’ quiz questions at the end of assembly very well!

PTA – it has been a very successful year for our PTA and we are looking forward to being able to use the new Trimtrail in September. Thank you for all of your support and to Mrs Sangster and the rest of the PTA team who have worked so hard on events and fundraising once again this year. We raised £343 at the picnic which was another fun family event. We’d love to see more parents at the PTA meetings and the next one is on Wednesday 23rd September at 7:30pm in school.

Musicians – well done to our woodwind and guitar players and choir on your excellent music assemblies. If you have a child currently in Year 3, 4 or 5 and you’d like them to start an instrument please return the slip by Friday – thank you. Our Year 1 children will be doing a short recorder concert for their parents/carers after school tomorrow (Thursday) to show their great progress.

Toy Day - On Friday children will be allowed to bring in a toy, it will be their responsibility to look after it. Mobiles phones don’t count as toys!

All The Best - We have to say good-bye to the current Year 6 class at the end of this week. They have finished on a high with fantastic results and a brilliant production. Parents/relatives are invited to the Leavers Assembly at 9:15am on Thursday. We wish the Year 6 children all the best in their move to high school – good luck and go for it!

We’ve had a successful and enjoyable year and thank you all for your support and partnership. We break up after school on Friday and the children are due back in on Wednesday 2nd September. Have a lovely summer break and we’ll see you after the holidays.

Yours sincerely,

 James Twigg
