Dear Parents/Carers,
We have really enjoyed our Olympic Challenge Week and the children have got a tremendous amount out of it.
We held a fantastic opening ceremony in which each class represented one of the Olympic or Paralympic Values. Elle Baker, who runs the 5000m, officially opened our week and spoke to us about how she has overcome and learnt from challenges in her career
Lynn and Dougal (Lynn's assistance dog) also came into school to speak in assembly. Lynn brought her Olympic torch with her and told us her inspirational story and the reasons she was chosen to run a leg of the torch's journey to London. Dougal was very unperturbed about being in school and relaxed calmly on the stage!
The whole school had a taster session of the Olympic sport of taekwondo. The children learnt about the respect and discipline needed to achieve in the sport. The coaches really felt that the children excelled and brought an excellent attitude to the sessions.
Our Junior Sports Day was a great success and the children did a super job demonstrating the Olympic Values (there are some great photos on the website). We also enjoyed beautiful weather which, unfortunately, wasn’t the case the next day. The weather was against us on Thursday and we had to postpone the Infant Sports Day. Thank you for your understanding about this and we’ll try again next Tuesday (26th June) at 1:30pm. As before, we will put up a message board and send a text if we’re not able to go ahead but hopefully the sun will shine next week! We really hope we can go ahead, however if it’s not possible then we will have to cancel and rather than try and organise yet another date we will take the children out for sports day on a convenient sunny afternoon if one arrives!
A big thank you to Miss Rainey and Miss Joseph for leading our Olympic Challenge Week so successfully and to all the staff for their great organisation and enthusiasm during the week.
Well done to all of the children for taking part in the activities and challenges with such a great attitude. There are some photos on our website and VLE which are well worth a look.
PTA Olympic Picnic – Unfortunately we have had to cancel the PTA picnic tonight as the weather forecast has been so bad and a wet field and a picnic just don’t go well together! Everyone who bought tickets has had a refund which you should have received yesterday. Thank you for your support and sorry that we’ve had to cancel.
Yours sincerely,
James Twigg
