June - Newsletter 22 (18th June 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Junior Production - This year the junior children are performing ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ for our summer production. As always, the Year 6 children take the lead roles and Years 3, 4 and 5 will be singing and have some smaller roles. We’re looking forward to the show which will be on the afternoon of Monday 13th July (dress rehearsal) and the evenings of Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th July. A letter will be coming home to junior parents next week so that you can order tickets (we initially limited this to two per family).

Year 3 Young Entrepreneurs – Our Year 3 children are taking part in the Stockport Young Entrepreneur competition along with children from about 15 schools in Stockport and have been hard at work creating their own business and making products. They will be selling their cake mix jars in early July and there will be more information from their advertising team to follow soon! Well done to Jayden Sebright in Class 3 who won the competition to design a logo for Stockport Young Entrepreneurs competition. There were lots of entries from across Stockport and so he did a great job to win – a fantastic start for the business too!

Sculpture Competition – we’ve started to get some lovely entries for our wildlife sculpture competition (either a British or Zambian animal) and I can now announce that the prize is even better than was first advertised - 4 winners (two infants and two juniors) will be taken to Knowlsey Safari Park in the last week of term by Miss Rainey and Mrs Rogers and will be shown around the safari park in a private jeep! We will extend the deadline for entries until Monday so that children have some time over the weekend if they’d like to take part. Judging will be on Monday when the Zambian teachers are here so make sure you get your entry in!

Instrumentalists

Our instrumentalists are getting ready to show off the results of their hard work and talent this half term.

Woodwind Assembly – Parents/relatives of children who learn flute, clarinet or saxophone at school are invited to an assembly at 10am on Thursday 16th July.

Guitar Assembly – Parents/relatives of children who learn guitar at school are invited to an assembly at 10am on Wednesday 22nd July.

‘Come and Play with the Halle’ – our instrumentalists and choir will also be performing at the Bridgewater Hall on July 10th and Mrs Toyne has already sent a letter home about this.

Payments to School –it is still useful for parents/carers have a chequebook to pay for trips etc. and your bank should provide you with one if you ask (if they don’t as a matter of course). All cheques should be made payable to SMBC Lane End Primary School (unless otherwise stated) and please can you write your child’s name and class on the back – thank you.

PTA: Trim trail – There is some information from the PTA attached to this newsletter on how you can help simply by voting online for our project – please have a look and please vote! Thank you.

PTA Summer Disco (for Parents) – there is also a letter attached for this event on 4th July.

Sponsored Skip – The skipping bug is sweeping the school and it’s great to see children take part in this fun and healthy activity at playtimes. We have our sponsored skip for The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK next Thursday – please help your children to get as many sponsors as they can for these worthwhile causes. We are having a class competition to see which class can raise the most money too.

Sports Days – a reminder that our sports days are on the next two Monday mornings:

Junior Sports Day is on Monday 22nd June from 9:30am and

Infants Sports Day is on Monday 29th June from 9:30am.

We’d love to see parents/carers/relatives there to support. The infant classes have had a separate letter explaining their morning; further details about Junior Sports day are below.

Junior Sports Day is following the same format as previous years with a ‘clock sports’ followed by the finals of the heats which have been held in class. We have a couple of changes in the clock sports with two new Zambian races: The Potato Race and the ‘Ready for School’ race as our Zambian visitors will be in attendance. Children should wear a t-shirt which is the colour of their team (red, blue, green or yellow) if you have one available and have the rest of their P.E. kit in school. Please can children bring a named bottle of water and also wear sun cream and a cap if it is a sunny day. If it is too wet/rainy and we are unable to go ahead we will let you know by text message. The map for the junior clock sports is shown here:

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg

PTA TRIM TRAIL FUNDRAISING UPDATE

After 4 years of fundraising, we now have the funds in place and have ordered the trim trail !!

Thank you for all your help and support over this time.

As part of the order, we have had to get safety flooring for under the equipment but due to the high cost of this we can only afford to get a temporary flooring at this stage. It should last approx 2 years but we would prefer to have a better long lasting flooring – a ‘safety grass’ – like astro turf only softer with much longer tufts and which should last the life of the equipment.

This is where we need your help

We have applied to the One Family Foundation and have been accepted on their Community Award scheme. Each year they offer 15 awards of £5000 and 4 awards of £25000.

We are trying to get support to receive the £5000.

All we need to do is get as many votes as we can for our project.

To vote go to:-

Anyone can vote so

PLEASE PASS ON THIS WEBSITE ADDRESS TO ANYONE YOU KNOW AND VOTE BY MIDDAY ON MONDAY 29TH JUNE
