March - Newsletter 16 (5th March 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Reading for Writing Week – we had a fantastic first week back after half term with the exciting events during our ‘Reading for Writing Week.’ If you haven’t had the chance already please do have a look at all of the photographs and work on our website – there’s a link from the front page at the moment, otherwise highlights from events such as this are shown in ‘Our School’ – ‘School Events’. The children got a great deal out of the week and were inspired to write purposefully based on the scenario from the book ‘Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs’. A big thank you to everyone for their enthusiasm: children, parents and of course the teachers and staff who planned the week and Mr Toyne who led it. A special thank you to Les Wilson and John Russon (along with family and friends) for their generous help making the week so memorable. We’d really like to get some feedback from home too, so if you have any comments about the week please send back the slip on the reverse. Thank you.

World Book Day – Remember that we are celebrating World Book Day on Friday and children can come into school dressed as a book character. We are looking forward to seeing the costumes, reading some fantastic books and enjoying the day.

Red Nose Day – Thank you to everyone who has already bought tickets for the Red Nose Day Disco on Friday 13th March. There is still time to get a ticket for your child if you haven’t done so already – all of the money raised goes to support Comic Relief. We will need some help on the night so if you’re available please let Bev Sangster our PTA chair know by email: bev.sangster@ntlworld.com or phone: 07967823526. Thank you.

Parents Evenings – Most parents have already signed up for parents evening (next Monday and Wednesday after school). If you haven’t already done this please pop in or call school to arrange your appointment as we’d like to see all parents. Please only use the main school number (0161 4858071) when contacting school – we don’t have a facility to answer phone calls or listen to voice messages on the number we use for text messages. Thank you.

Clubs – because of parents evenings some of our teacher led clubs are cancelled, these are: football club with Miss Rainey and Mr Toyne, and art club. Country Dancing Club will take place and will be the last one as the Country Dancing Festival is a week on Monday. All other clubs are on as usual.

School Sport – We’ve had some great success and close matches recently with the football team doing a great job of representing the school in matches against Orrishmere and Banks Lane. Our lacrosse team played very well in their first tournament recently at Bramhall High and we hope to see them go on from strength to strength. There’s still room for more children in Years 4, 5 and 6 to train on a Monday and take part in lacrosse, please let us know if you’re interested so that we can send the forms home. Mr Peacock has also started our cross country training this half term and hopes to build on the great success we’ve been having. At the most recent race at Cheadle Catholic the girls came 3rd overall and the boys 1st with some great individual success for the children including Emma Sangster in Year 5 who came 2nd and Stephanie Brown in Year 3 who came 14th for the girls and Jacob Towns in Year 5 who came 2nd and Charlie Crowther in Year 6 who came 5th for the boys. The next event is on Tuesday at Hursthead, please could you send your slip back if your child can take part.

Well done and thank you again to Jason in Year 5 who entered the Friends of the Earth competition to try and win solar panels for the school. We didn’t win but Jason’s entry received a lot of votes (thank you to everyone who voted) and he also received a letter from Mark Hunter MP commending him on the excellent entry.

Some of our Year 3’s have also got something to be proud of as they have all won a Blue Peter Badge after spending their Golden Times designing a Blue Peter garden. Noah sent their entry in and we were able to present them with the badges and a letter from Blue Peter in assembly on Friday. Well done to: Rosie, Noah R, Bea, Sophie W, Bella, Sophie T, Harry and Katie.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
