March - Newsletter 18 (31st March 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

We’ve had a busy, enjoyable and rewarding term and break up after school this Thursday. The children are due back into school on Monday 20th April.

Cycle to School Week - Our cycle to school week went very well. It was pleasing to see so many children choosing this healthy way to get to school and remembering to wear their cycle helmets too. The ‘slow bike race’ on Friday was great fun and we saw some excellent balancing skills from the children. Thank you for your support and to Mr Vallance for organising the event.

Choir - Well done to our choir who did a brilliant job at the Junior School Choir Concert at the Town hall last week. A big thank you to Mrs Stutfield who is volunteering for us and doing such a good job leading the choir.

Cross Country – there was also a lot to celebrate at the last cross country race of the season. Lane End girls team came third overall and the boys team came second (beating much bigger schools and private schools too!). There were individual medals for Emma, Jacob and Charlie and all of our runners did a great job representing the school – well done all!

Some Sad News – Mr Rhodes, our caretaker, had been off work poorly for a long time and I am sorry to let you know that he died of a heart attack last week. I attended his funeral with some of our other staff members on Monday and spoke to the children about this in assembly, many of the older children remembering him fondly.

Class Photos – our class photos will be taken on the first Wednesday back after the holidays (22nd April). Please could all children come to school in full school uniform.

Clubs – a new club letter will come home after the Easter Holidays. Some clubs will continue and be on in the first week back – Lacrosse (letters going home this week for Year 4-6), Choir, Junior Sports Stars, Gymnastics, Cross Country and Tennis will all take place in the first week back. Unfortunately French Club does not have enough members to continue after Easter, but we are continuing our partnership with The Language People in school and Mrs Lee will continue to come in for the specialist French teaching with Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Tennis club for Year 1 and 2 has a couple more spaces available – please let us know if your child would like to join (3:15-4:15 on Fridays in the hall with Bramhall Park Lawn Tennis Club).

PTA Summer Fair – Our Summer Fair is on Saturday 16th May from 12- 3pm. We were very grateful to have a good number of helpers for the Christmas Fair – it helped enable a very successful event. Please help with the summer fair if you can – more details will come home about it after Easter. The raffle tickets can help raise a lot of money for the school to spend on your children so please do sell as many as you can over the Easter Holidays – there are always lots of excellent prizes too. We are holding a miniature garden competition for the children this year. The garden should be no bigger than an A4 piece of paper and can be made from junk modelling materials/ real plants/ playdough / whatever the children think will help create an interesting miniature garden – they can decide their own theme/design and there will be prizes for the winners.

Have a lovely Easter break and we look forward to seeing you all again after the holidays.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
