May - Newsletter 21 (17th May 2017)

Dear Parents/Carers,

PTA Summer Fair – this Saturday from 12 – 3pm! We’d love to see you all there. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help – we really need more volunteers so please do sign up if you can. Please could all money from your raffle tickets sales and the stubs be returned this week – thank you to everyone who has already sold theirs and sent in the money. There are some great raffle prizes as always this year.

It is our last non-uniform day on Friday and children should bring in chocolate or home-made cakes – thank you!

PTA Charity Status – A big thank you to the PTA and, in particular, Bev Sangster who has tirelessly put together our successful application for charity status for the PTA. This means that we can now claim gift aid, start a Just Giving page and apply for a wide range of grants. Many businesses are also able to make contributions to charities so please get in touch if you work for a company which may be able to help.

Well Done Year 6 - I wanted to say how proud we are of our Year 6 children – they have shown a great attitude all year and this was very noticeable last week as they took their SATs tests. They were calm and collected and took the tests with exactly the attitude we would hope for – working hard but keeping it in perspective. Well done to the staff too who have also been calm and collected and helped the children to have the best week they could. We don’t stop the wider curriculum and the Year 6 children have also been showing their creative flair. They have been working on their sewing skills and Mayan art projects and you can see some of their work on our Twitter page!

Junior Production – 18th July at 1:45pm and 19th July at 6:30pm. A highlight of the summer calendar is our junior production at the end of the year. Year 6 will take the lead roles with Years 3, 4 and 5 supporting with the singing. This year the children will be performing ‘Alice’ based on ‘Alice in Wonderland’ – this fits in nicely with our 50th Anniversary as the school also performed a show called ‘Alice’ in 1972 – there are a few photos of this below. To mark the occasion we are having an Alice in Wonderland art competition – the children can create and bring in a picture, painting, model or piece of craft based on or inspired by the story of Alice in Wonderland. The deadline for the competition is Friday 7th July. There will be prizes and certificates for the winning infant and junior entries.

Information about production tickets will come home nearer the time for parents of our junior children.

Class Photos – these will be taken on Wednesday 24th May. Full school uniform please.

Handwriting - We have a new cursive handwriting scheme called ‘Letter-join’ in school which all classes from Year 1 to Year 6 will be using (with Reception doing some preparation work in the Summer Term). You can support and practise with your child at home using the online handwriting tools and resources – please see the details of how to access these below.

Please remember we break up on Friday 26th May for the half term holidays and the children are back in on Tuesday 13th June as the Monday is an INSET day.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
