May - Newsletter 22 (25th May 2017)

Dear Parents/Carers,

PTA Summer Fair – Thank you for all of the support for our PTA Summer Fair. It was a lovely event (despite a lot of rain!) and raised a fantastic £2407 which will make a big difference to the school. Thank you again to the PTA for their excellent organisation and to everyone for all of the help with non-uniform days, selling raffle tickets, helping on stalls and everything else needed to put a successful fair together. It’s much appreciated.

50th Anniversary Celebrations – You are all invited to school on Friday 23rd June 2017 – exactly 50 years since the school was officially opened on 23rd June 1967. Weather permitting, at 9:30am we will be holding a special assembly outside on the junior playground next to the school garden. We are going to be joined by the Mayor of Stockport and Mr Phil Beswick – Stockport’s Director of Education. We will bury our time capsule which contains some of the children’s work and artefacts gathered during our 50th Anniversary theme week in March and we will sing some songs in celebration of our anniversary. At 10:30am each class will then take part in a sponsored jog (so all children will need Lane End P.E. and trainers in school) – we are awaiting final permission from the council and the plan is to jog down Ramillies Avenue, across a bit of Blenheim Road, up Marlborough Avenue and then back through the alleyway to school and on to the field (this should take place between 10:30 – 11:30am) – each class will take this at an appropriate pace! We would love parents and residents to be out to wave us on our way. We would also really appreciate you helping your child to get sponsorship for the event. The money raised will be split between Race for Life (Cancer Research UK) and the PTA and your child’s sponsorship form will have one of these charities listed (this is the only way we can organise gift aid to be split between the two charities). There is a sponsorship form attached and all money should be collected and back to school with the sponsor form by Friday 30th June – thank you!

Supporting Manchester - We had an assembly on Tuesday to talk in a primary school appropriate way about the terrible incident in Manchester and think about the amazing response from our emergency services and the people of Manchester. We also held a minute’s silence at 11am today. Molly and Madison Minshall from Y6 and Y1 are organising a cake sale with some of their friends to support charities helping families affected by this tragedy. The cakes will be on sale at breaktime tomorrow and children can bring in money if they’d like to buy a cake. If you’d like to donate a cake then that would also be very welcome.

Stockport Local Authority have sent Stockport schools some information for schools and parents which you may want to read. It is included at the bottom of this electronic newsletter.

Art Competition - The half term holiday is a great opportunity for the children to complete their entry for the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ art competition mentioned on the last newsletter – all entries should be in by Friday 7th July.

Handwriting – We’re already having some good reports about the children’s handwriting with our new scheme. The holidays might also be a good time to try out our new handwriting program - www.letter-join.co.uk.
