November (Newsletter 9) 27th November 2012

Dear Parents/Carers,

                        PTA Christmas Fair – Saturday 1st December from 12:00 – 3:00pm

The PTA Christmas Fair is nearly here and we really hope that you are all going to come. It promises to be a great afternoon with games, tombolas, Christmas crafts, Father Christmas, face painting, stalls, the raffle, food and much, much more. The children are making Christmas crafts this week and these will all be on sale at the fair too. We’ll make sure that individual crafts are named so that you can buy the one your own child has made! The money from this stall will go direct to your child’s class so they can decide what to buy with it for the class.  Lane End Tea Towels will also be on sale – they make a great Christmas present, particularly for grandparents. The money raised from the fair goes towards all the enrichment resources and activities the PTA provide for the children which we couldn’t afford without them.

It is our last non-uniform day on Friday with children bringing in cakes or chocolate. Please could we also have all stubs and money from raffle ticket sales and any unsold tickets back tomorrow – there are some great prizes on offer as always. Thank you again for your support!

Infant Christmas Production and Junior Carol Concert

A letter is attached to the infant newsletters explaining about tickets for the Infant Christmas Production of ‘Christmas with the Aliens’ on Monday 10th December at 2pm and Tuesday 11th December at 6pm. It promises to be a great show. Infant parents, please return the ticket slip by 6th December – thank you.

The Junior Carol Concert is on Thursday 13th December from 7pm at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church. We don’t do tickets for this event but have a collection for charity at the end. There is a slip at the end of the newsletter – please could Junior parents return this to let us know how many seats you require to give us a good idea about numbers (no more than 4 per family please so that everyone can fit in) - thank you!

Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church’s Community Carol Service – separate to the above, the Methodist Church are holding their Community Carol Service this Sunday at 6:30pm. Some of our children will be singing there and everyone is invited.

Movember and Wear Pink on Friday!

Mr Toyne and myself showed off (?) our moustaches whilst running the Movember 10km run on Saturday at Heaton Park with Mr Vallance cheering us on! All the children can join in if they’d like to by sporting a moustache or/and wearing pink on Friday as we raise awareness of and money for men and women’s cancer charities. Any donations gratefully received – thank you!

Maths Success

We had two maths presentations in assembly on Monday. Firstly from Cheadle Hulme High School because our Year 5 and 6 children from last year won their ‘Maths Challenge’ out of all the Cheadle Hulme schools - the High School were particularly impressed with how our children were able to explain their working out and how they got to their answer. George, Ben and Alex who are now in Year 7 came along with their maths teacher, Mrs Salisbury, to present the trophy to the current Year 6. Somaia from Explore Learning was also in assembly to present our maths team with certificates and medals for getting to the semi-finals of the National Mathematics Competition. We didn’t make the final but they were very impressed with the level of maths and team work shown by the children. Well done all!

Message from Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church Pre-school Playgroup

After twenty years working at CHMC Pre-school Playgroup, Mrs Lesley Bunting is retiring after Christmas. As many of you have children who have attended the playgroup, we thought you might like to know that the playgroup parents are taking a collection. If you would like to contribute to their collection you can send money into school in an envelope marked ‘Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church Playgroup Collection’ by 7th December and we will give them to the Playgroup for you – you can also put a message/greeting in the envelope on a postcard-sized piece of paper which will be stuck into a scrap book for Mrs Bunting (feel free to be as colourful and creative as you like!).

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
