November - Newsletter 7 (6th November 2012)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back – I hope you all had a good half term week.

Parents’ Evening

Our Parent-Teacher interviews are on Tuesday 13th (later night) and Wednesday 14th November for all classes apart from Year 1 whose parents evenings will be on Monday 12th and Wednesday 14th (later night). A sign up sheet for a time slot will be available in the school office area from 8:00am tomorrow (Wednesday 7th November). If you can’t make it in to school you can phone from this time to arrange an appointment (please be patient as it can get busy). We really hope to see all parents there.

PTA – the PTA AGM is tomorrow at 7:30pm – 8:30pm (in the school staffroom). Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there.

We have our three non-uniform days starting next week, where the children can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for something for the fair.

Week One (Friday 16th November) Please could children bring in a children’s tombola prize

Week Two (Friday 23rd November) A bottle for the bottle tombola – any full unopened bottle as a donation, e.g. bubble bath, sauce, wine, olive oil etc.

Week Three (Friday 30th November) Cake or Chocolates – Homemade cakes would be particularly lovely.

Thank you!

Reading Books – staff have been working hard organising the new colour bands on our reading books – we are very nearly there and just have a couple of final things to do before we can start giving the books out again. We should hopefully be able to give books out again on Thursday. Thank you for your patience.  We will also send out a note explaining the new bands for you.

We’re doing a lot for charity this month with, among other things, Children in Need on 16th November and the Children’s Charity Sales starting this Friday and for the next two Fridays.

Children in Need - Friday 16th November – children can bring in loose change and we are going to have a competition to see which class can build the tallest tower of coins (thinking carefully about their design and structure!). The theme this year is ‘Go Pyjamas’ and during the non-uniform day children can wear pyjamas if they wish (with a warm underlayer!). The Year 6 and Year 4 children have class trips on Friday 16th so will be taking part in Children in Need on Thursday 15th – your teacher will send a note to explain. It is also the PTA Children in Need Disco on Friday 16th  (Infants 6:00-7:00pm, Juniors 7:15 – 8:15pm, Fancy Dress optional)  - if you haven’t bought tickets yet they cost £2.50 each (with all the money that is made going to Children in Need) and you should send it in to school in an envelope with your child’s name, class and marked PTA Disco. Any cheques should be made payable to Lane End PTA. Thank you!

Children’s Charity Sales – the sales start this Friday with the children who are taking part from Year 6 and Year 1. Children should bring their items for sale to school in the morning and we will help organise them ready for the sale at 2:30pm. I know the children have been thinking hard about this and were able to talk in assembly this morning about what they will be selling and which charity they are supporting. If you are waiting to pick up before the end of the day and want to come to the sale you are welcome to (it will finish at 3:10pm) – it may be in the hall or outside on the playground depending on the weather. Next Friday (16th November) it will be the children from Year 3 and on the final Friday (23rd November) it will be the children from Years 4, 5 and 2. Thank you to those parents who have said they can help – please come to school on the day of your child’s sale at 2:20pm. Children should bring their money to buy items at the sales in to school on the day of the sale.

Movember the male staff are supporting men’s health and cancer charities by (attempting) to grow moustaches this month. We are also going to have a wear pink day so that everyone can get involved and support women’s cancer charities too on Friday 30th November. As it is a non-uniform day for the Christmas Fair the children can also choose to wear pink or sport a moustache (or both) for the day!

Remembrance Day – Poppies are also on sale this week. We suggest a donation of 20p or more for a poppy and the children can bring the money into their classroom.

I know that there is a lot going on at the moment and we’ve really tried to support the children’s enthuasism and good will for helping charities – anything you can do to help is much appreciated but please don’t feel obliged! Thank you again for all of your support!

New Fence – You will notice a new fence outside the infant entrance infront of the carpark replacing the barrier that was there before. This is the final stage of our fencing project to improve safety around the playground and outside areas.
