November - Newsletter 8 (20th November 2012)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Children in Need – Go Pyjamas!

The children did a great job on Friday and we raised lots of money for Children in Need. We’re still counting all of the coins from the coin tower challenge but think we must have about £200! Year 6 built the tallest tower of 37cm, but all the classes had a good go! The PTA Children in Need Disco was a great success too, raising a fantastic £351.40 for the charity. Thank you for your support and to the PTA and all of the parents who helped too – it’s much appreciated.

Anti-bullying Week

This week is National Anti-bullying Week and we are spending time in assembly and class doing work on saying ‘No to bullying’. Each class will create their own Anti-bullying charter which we will display in the hall.

Children’s Charity Sales

The children’s charity sales have been going really well and I been very impressed with the hard work the children have put in in preparing for them. Thank you for all of your support too. On Friday it is the turn of the children in Years 2, 4 and 5. As there are three classes this week we will start the sale at 2:15pm (parents who are helping are welcome to arrive for 2:10pm - thank you!). Once we have all of the totals we will let you know how much was raised altogether. I will send individual cheques to each charity unless a parent from one of the children in the group wants to take the money to the children’s charity themselves – if so, please just let me know.

Maths Challenge

Well done to our Year 6 maths team (Naomi, Ruth, Harry and Oliver B) who are going to the second round of the National Young Mathematician Award competition today after completing the complex maths challenge and displaying great team work in the first round. The competition is being held at Explore Learning in Cheadle Hulme and if the children get through this round the final is held at Cambridge University – 700 schools across the country took part this year and only 190 got through to the second round. Good luck!

PTA

This Thursday 22nd we are hosting a Body Shop Discount Shopping Party, tickets are £5 with a glass of wine included on entry. As well as having demonstrations of facials and make-up, there is also a chance to win some gorgeous prizes and get those last minute Christmas presents.

We hope that you can make it but if you can’t, the offers are still available please email bev.sangster@ntlworld.com or text 07967 823526 to order a brochure.

Thank you to everyone who has bought a tea towel so far, they are selling really well. They will be on sale again at the Christmas Fair and after that we will send an order form home too.

PTA Christmas Fair – Saturday 1st December from 12:00 – 3:00pm

We really hope that you will be coming to the Christmas Fair, your support makes a big difference. Every penny the PTA make goes to enriching the children’s school experience and we are hoping to install the new library over the Christmas Holidays. Thank you to everyone who has said they will help so far – if you haven’t volunteered yet but can give up some time please email Bev Sangster: bev.sangster@ntlworld.com

Thank you for your support selling raffle tickets and for the non-uniform days. Our non-uniform day this Friday is for a bottle (any unopened bottle, e.g. wine, bubble bath, olive oil, ketchup etc.). All raffle ticket money and stubs and any unsold tickets should be returned by next Tuesday. Thanks again!

Stay and Play have a vacancy for a play worker. If you are interested, please contact Hilary or Carole on 07947777595 for more details.
