November- Newsletter 8

Dear Parents/Carers,

Netball Success – Well done to the netball team who won their match against Bolshaw Primary School 5 – 0. The children showed excellent teamwork throughout the game.

Children in Need - Thank you for your support for Children in Need – we raised a fantastic £126 from our spotty face painting!

Guitar lessons – for this week only guitar lessons will be on Wednesday afternoon as Mr Knowles isn’t able to come into school on Tuesday.

Help your Child to Learn to use their Growth Mindset

We are working with the children on how to face a challenge and get the most out of their learning. These are useful skills for adults too as we role model for the children. We would like to work with parents on this project to get the most out of it for all of the children – these are life skills which are useful to everyone. Mrs Love is holding a parents’ information meeting about how to help your child be a positive learner and a letter went home last week. We really hope that a lot of parents will be able to attend this valuable session. It is on Monday 28th November from 6:15pm. Please send the slip back or

write us a note to say you will be attending - just parents/carers please, not children. Thank you.

Tennis Club – a reminder that there is no tennis club after school on Friday 2nd December as we will be

setting the hall up for the Christmas Fair.

Staff News

We just wanted to let everybody know that Mrs Love is pregnant and likely to be taking her maternity leave from March 2012. We are obviously very pleased for Mrs Love and have already informed the Year 5 parents. We are also very pleased that Miss Joseph, who is currently covering Mrs Chamberlain’s maternity leave until the Christmas Holidays, is going to cover Mrs Love’s maternity leave teaching the children in Year 5 alongside Mrs Tweddle. As Mrs Love is also our deputy head for 4 days along with Mr Toyne, Mr Toyne will be taking on the full role during Mrs Love’s maternity leave.

Industrial Action, 30th November – A letter went home on Friday about the need to close the school to all classes on Wednesday 30th November because of the joint union industrial action (a copy is also

available on the website).  Just to let parents know that Gym Club will not be on this day and the cost will be deducted from next half term’s lessons.

PTA Christmas Fair

The PTA Christmas Fair is on Saturday 3rd December from 12 – 2:30pm. Please try and sell your raffle tickets by Tuesday 29th November and return any unsold tickets. Please do ask if you’d like any more to

sell – there are lots of fantastic raffle prizes. Thank you.

  Non-Uniform Days

Thank you very much for your support with our first non-uniform day – the next two are as follows:

Week Two (Friday 25th November): A bottle for the bottle tombola (any full unopened bottle as a

donation, e.g. bubble bath, olive oil, wine, sauce etc.)

Week Three (Friday 2nd December): Cake or Chocolates (home-made cakes would be particularly lovely!).    Thank you very much for your support.

Can you help at the Christmas Fair? – Please remember to contact us if you are able to help. You can do this by emailing Sam Stansfield on tonyandsam@tiscali.co.uk, phoning her on 0777 3054036 or returning the reply slip from the last newsletter (also available on our website) to school. Any amount of help is much appreciated – half an hour of your time can make a big difference to the smooth running of the fair. You don’t need to have come to PTA meetings to help – just let us know that you’re available and we’ll be able to let you know which stall you could help out on etc. Thank you!

PTA Ladies Fashion Show – the PTA Ladies Fashion show was a great success and raised a fantastic £827 for PTA fundraising for school which will go towards funding, among other things, the new library, benches for the playground and classroom resources. Thank you to everyone who came and supported and to the PTA for their excellent organisation and hard work.

Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) – Lane End Primary School has one of the best attendance records in Stockport and we thank you for your support with this. Every school in Stockport has a designated Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) who checks on issues such as children’s attendance and punctuality. They check all schools in Stockport and parents may receive a letter from the EWO if their child is persistently late to school or if there are particular concerns about their attendance.

Arriving to School – It is important that children are on time as it gets everyone off to a good start to the day. The school doors open at 8:50am for the infants and the junior playground is supervised from 8:50am. It is not supervised before then and so junior children should not be arriving much before this time. We have a few junior children at the moment who are arriving very early (before 8:40am) and I would ask, for the children’s safety, if parents could drop them off closer to 8:50am or, if they are walking to school, help ensure that they arrive closer to 8:50am. We will let you know if this continues to be a worry. Thank you for your help.

Parent Governor – There is a letter going home to parents today about a Parent Governor vacancy – please return the nomination form or come and talk to me if you are interested. Thank you.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,
