November - Newsletter 7 (11th November 2013)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Walk to School Fortnight and Road Safety Competition – thank you for the great response and for walking to school in all weathers this fortnight! Don’t forget there is also a Road Safety poster/painting competion for the children to take part in – the deadline is Friday 22nd November if they want to take part.

Matthew Walker MBE (world champion paralympic swimmer) gave us an inspiring talk in assembly last week and also spent time in each class talking to the children. He talked about never giving up and going for your dreams and showed everyone his amazing collection of olympic medals!

Parents Evening – The vast majority of parents have already signed up for a slot for this week’s parents evenings – thank you. Please come in to school or phone up to sign up for a slot tomorrow if you haven’t already done so.

Clubs – because of parents evening the following clubs run by teachers will not be on this week: cooking club, creative club. These clubs will also not be running due to staff being on training courses: country dancing club, percussion club. All other clubs will be on as normal.

Target Setting – as mentioned in our School Improvement Plan for parents which was sent home in October (and is also available on the website in the newsletters section) we have developed new ways of organising the children’s targets.  Each child in Years 1 – 6 will be getting a booklet designed by the class teacher which will contain their targets – the booklets will go between home and school and this should mean that both children and parents have a better understanding of the target and allow us all to work together on these areas. This new way of working will also mean that the target setting process is more responsive to what each child is doing and will link in better with our ‘Growth Mindset’ work. The booklets will be explained at parents evening and then targets will be put in these and sent home soon. Reception children already have their ‘working walls’ which contain their next steps targets.

Children in Need is on Friday 15th November. As we already have a non-uniform day (for the fair – see below) the children can make their non-uniform spotty if they wish! We will also have an inter-class competition to see which class can fill a spotty welly with coins to donate to children in need – so please can children bring in some loose change to help fill the wellies – thank you!

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
