November - Newsletter 8 (16th November 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

PTA Christmas Fair - Saturday 26th November from 12 - 3pm

It is our second non-uniform day in preparation for the Christmas Fair on Friday (18th November). Please can children bring in any unopened bottle for the bottle tombola (e.g wine, sauce, bubble bath etc). As it is also Children in Need day, children can add spots/Pudsey ears etc. to their non-uniform if they wish. Children are also invited to bring in any loose change which we will use to create a huge picture of Pudsey before donating the money to Children in Need.

The following Friday (25th November) is our last non-uniform day before the fair. For this one please can children bring in either chocolates for the chocolate tombola or homemade cakes for the cake stall (rather than buying cakes please could you bring chocolate bars/boxes for the chocolate tombola as this is always popular – thank you!).

The PTA have a planning meeting for the fair tomorrow at 9am (Thursday 17th) in the community room as well as a bottle wrapping session on Thursday 24th in the community room – please come along to help if you are available.

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help at the fair – the rota is in the school entrance. We still need lots more help so please do sign up if you are available. Please also let the PTA know (via Bev Sangster or the Facebook page) if you can help collecting raffle prizes and putting up posters.

Please do put the date in your diary and come along to the fair for a fun afternoon and much needed financial support to the school. The money raised is going towards books for the library, reading schemes, classrooms and guided reading. There is lots to do at the fair for children and adults: stalls, games, Father Christmas, tombola, raffle, bar (consider walking to avoid the parking issues and enjoy the festivities!), food, gifts and the children’s crafts. Thank you to the Wilson family and Mrs Hawken who have been in school working with all of the children making some fantastic Christmas crafts. These will be on sale at the fair for £3.50 each and you will be able to buy your child’s own handmade beautiful Christmas candle holder. We will have a discounted rate for subsequent candle holders if you have more than one child! The crafts are a masterpiece this year with a wooden base, candle holder, candle and decorations – you can see some colour photos on our Twitter feed. It is great that everyone can come together to help the school and children – we really do appreciate your support.

Cross Country – well done to all of our cross country team at the race with local schools organised by Mrs Li at Lane End last week and thank you to Mrs Li for organising. Everyone did very well and it was a great event. A special mention to Dylan in Year 6 who came second and Ava in Year 6 who came fourth.

We have a lot of clubs for the children to get involved in at Lane End and aim to provide for a wide variety of interests – a new club for this year is the 50th Anniversary Sewing Club run by Mrs Leary. There was such a big interest in the club that we have needed to split it in to smaller groups. The first group have made a great start learning the skills and beginning their patchwork squares.

All children are invited to have a school Christmas dinner on Wednesday 21st Dec – children who normally have school dinner will automatically receive this. For all junior children who have a packed lunch the school Christmas dinner will be bookable and payable from today until 30th November on ParentPay (it will not be available on ParentPay after this date so please do book straight away – if you do not want your child to have a Christmas Dinner please ignore the ParentPay request and it will disappear on the 30th November!). For infant children who normally bring sandwiches and would like a school Christmas dinner, please can parents contact the office by 30th November to arrange this as there is no payment for infant school dinners.  As is our tradition, all children will also be able to bring in a cracker on that day to add to the festivities.

Well done to the children who have already sent in their entries for the Road Safety Poster competition. All of the road safety posters need to be in school by Friday 25th November. They should be bright, bold and colourful and get a message about road safety across – for pedestrians, cyclists and/or car drivers. Please can children also write their name and class on the back. An A3 entry sheet was sent home to do the poster on, however if you can’t find this children can still enter – please use either A3 or A4 paper for the poster. There will be Halfords gift vouchers for the infant and junior winners (kindly provided by Thorneycroft Solicitors, part of the Brain Injury group)and the winning designs will be made into posters which will be displayed around school.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,   James Twigg
