November - Newsletter 8 (21st November 2013)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas Preparations

PTA Christmas Fair, Saturday 30th November 12:00 – 3:00pm – thank you to everyone who has signed up to help. We still need more helpers – there is a sheet in the school entrance, please do help if you can.1/2 an hour of helping from more people makes a big difference.

Thank you for selling raffle tickets. Please return all the money and stubs and any unsold tickets to school by next Tuesday (26th November).

It’s our next non-uniform day tomorrow (22nd November) with children bringing in a bottle for the bottle tombola. Then Friday 29th November is non-uniform day for chocolate, cakes or hamper prizes. Thank you again for your help with this.

Thank you to the PTA for running the coffee mornings before our class assemblies. Next Thursday (28th November) is Class 6’s assembly at 10:10am and there will be another coffee morning in the community room. Some children from Cheadle Hulme School will be taking orders for non-alcoholic mulled wine in aid of St Anne’s Hospice during the coffee morning.

Children in Need – we had a great response to our ‘fill a welly’ challenge raising a total amount of £240. Well done all. Class 6’s welly had the most in it at £45.10. Thank you for your generosity.

 School Christmas Dinner

We are inviting all children to have a school Christmas Dinner on Thursday 12th December. If your child normally has a school dinner they will receive this automatically. If your child normally has a packed lunch  but would like a school dinner on this day then please fill in the attached slip and return it to school with £2.05 (exact change or a cheque made payable to SMBC) in an envelope with your child’s name and marked ‘School Christmas Dinner’.  Please reply by the morning of Thursday 5th December at the latest – thank you! A menu is attached. We also invite all children to bring a cracker into school on this day for lunchtime.

Infant Christmas Production and Junior Carol Concert

A letter is attached to the infant newsletters explaining about tickets for the Infant Christmas Production of ‘Prickly Hay’ on Monday 9th December at 2pm and Tuesday 10th December at 6pm. It promises to be a great show. Infant parents, please return the ticket slip by the morning of 4th December, tickets limited to two per family – thank you.

The Junior Carol Concert is on Thursday 19th December from 7pm at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church. We don’t do tickets for this event but have a collection for charity at the end. There is a slip at the end of the newsletter – please could Junior parents return this to let us know how many seats you require to give us a good idea about numbers (no more than 4 per family please so that everyone can fit in) - thank you!

Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church’s Community Carol Service – separate to the above, the Methodist Church are holding their Community Carol Service on Sunday 1st December at 6:30pm. Our choir will be singing there and everyone is invited.

More Musical Events…

The Choir will also be singing at St George’s Church on Tuesday 3rd December at 7:30pm at the Stockport Junior Schools’ Carol Festival (Mrs Toyne will send home more details to choir parents soon). They will also be singing us a few songs at the Christmas Fair too.

We’d also like some of musicians to play some Christmas songs at the fair – any child who has an instrument can bring it along and we’ll have a music stand ready for you to use for a couple of Christmas songs during the fair.

We also have two children, Isabel Yu and Jason Kambites, who are members of ‘Stockport Junior Voices’ and are singing with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the centenary celebrations of composer Benjamin Britten – the concert is being broadcast live on Radio 3 tomorrow at approximately 5pm.

Thank you for supporting our Walk to School fortnight – it was great to see so many of you walking and I hope you can keep it up through the cold weather that is to come!

Thinking about the colder weather, please make sure children have a warm coat in school and hats, gloves etc as necessary when it’s cold. We do try and go outside for playtime as much as possible through the winter months so warm clothes are necessary.

It is the deadline for the road safety poster/painting competition tomorrow – this is open to all childen and all you have to do to enter is draw or paint a poster or picture about road safety. Put your name and class on the back and bring it in tomorrow. The children could win a £10 WH Smith voucher and other goodies too.

Girls’ Football Tournament – a huge well done to our Girls’ Football Team led by Miss Rainey who have gained their second title in a row at the Stockport Girls’ Football Tournament earlier this week. They played brilliantly won all of their 5 games against the different teams convincingly and we’re very proud of them all!

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
