October - Newsletter 5 (10th October 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Walk to School fortnight – thank you to everyone who has already started walking or riding to school and collecting their stamps. It was a great start to the fortnight today. If your child didn’t have their Walk to School passport this morning then they can get it stamped tomorrow for both days if they bring their passport in.

Assemblies

This half term has already seen a range of different visitors during our school assemblies.

Recently Reverend Peacock was in school for our Harvest Assembly; he spoke about how fortunate we were to have enough food and water. Thank you for the generous response to our Harvest collection for the Wellspring Kitchen.

Dr Wooley from Cheadle Hulme High School’s maths department was also in assembly recently along with two Year 7 ex-Lane Enders for the official presentation of the CHHS Maths Challenge Trophy. This is an annual maths challenge and competition between all of the local primary schools which incorporates some high level problem solving – Lane End won the trophy in 2016 and we are now joint top on the leaderboard with 3 wins!

Mrs Stutfield joined us in assembly with the choir this morning – they sang their three songs beautifully and then we all learnt how to sing ‘Life is a Wonderful Thing’, our new school song, with everyone singing beautifully together!

Big Friendly Read Winners – well done to all of the children who took part in Stockport Libraries’ Big Friendly Read Challenge over the summer. Cheadle Hulme Library emailed me to let us know that the following children had completed the challenge: Stephanie Brown, Ciara Chapman, Erin Fleming, Zoe Hodgson, Katie James, Helen Kambites, Sophie Kambites, Noah King, Austin King, Caitlin King, Eleana Matos, Noah Ruddick, Timothy Ruddick, Sophie Traill, Sophie Webster, Darcie Wilson, Owen Wilson. Well done!

ParentPay – apologies if you received a letter to say that you hadn’t signed up to ParentPay when you had already done so. If this is the case please ignore the letter. This is most likely to have affected parents with more than one child as ‘sign-up’ was only showing for one child per family. ParentPay have run a fix and this is now not showing as an issue.  If you have not yet signed up however, please follow the instructions on the letter to do so. Please let us know if you need any help with this.

Lost Property – there is a lot of lost property at the moment. We will go through it and return any named items to their owners. Any non-named items will all be available in the hall to see on Friday after school – after that any remaining clothing will need to be recycled. Please do put your child’s name in all of their clothes as we can then get it back to them if it is found.

Children’s photos – the children had their individual photos taken last week and a proof and order form was sent home. All orders need to be in school tomorrow (Tuesday 11th) so that we can get them to the photographer. They can also be ordered online. Thank you.

PTA News   PTA AGM – The AGM is at 7:30pm on Tuesday 11th October (tomorrow). Please do come if you can make it. Everyone is welcome.

A reminder that we also have a non-uniform day on the last day of this half term (Friday 21st October) – this is to help raise money for the children’s Christmas parties later this term. Any extra money will go to PTA fundraising for books for the school library and reading schemes. Please could children bring in a donation of £1 (or more!) on this day. Thank you.

PTA Macmillan Coffee Morning and Cake Sale – we raised £106 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone who came or bought cakes after school. The cakes sold particularly well at the after school sale and so we may make this the focus for next year.

PTA Quiz Night – this Friday from 7:30pm! Please can we have all replies back by Wednesday. We’d love to see you there!

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,   James Twigg
