September - Newsletter 2 (11th September 2012)

September 11th 2012

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children have started the new academic year very well and we are also very pleased with how well our new Reception children are settling in.

Please find attached a list of useful dates for the year. These are also available on our website in the ‘Parents’ section.

Each class holds two assemblies during the year for parents to attend and we’d love to see you there. These usually take place at 10:10am. The first class assembly dates organised are listed below:

Thursday 27th September – Year 3 (Harvest Assembly*), Thursday 11th October – Year 4, Thursday 8th November – Year 6, Thursday 22nd November – Year 5 (ALL at 10:10am).

*Although the Year 3 children are delivering our Harvest Assembly to their parents this year (I’m afraid that parents from other year groups won’t be able to watch due to space limitations) all children throughout the school can bring in tins, packets of food etc. for our Harvest Assembly from Friday 21st September. This year, these will go to The Wellspring Kitchen who support the homeless in Stockport. They have sent us a list of needed items which is also attached. Thank you for your support in anticipation.

The Class Curriculum Booklets will be coming home for children in Years 1 – 6 today. Please keep these as a reference for throughout the year. The VLE booklet is also coming home for all classes this week. This booklet contains your child’s individual username and password for the VLE and Mathletics, a summary of what is available on the VLE this year, as well as our Responsible Use Policy which all users of the VLE must follow – please do take the time to have a good look through the booklet with your child and then explore the VLE together.

Applying for a Reception Place or Secondary School Place for September 2013

The deadline for applying for a Secondary School place is 31st October 2012.

The deadline for applying for a Reception place is 15th January 2013.

All parents/carers need to ensure that they apply before these deadlines.

Information is available on the Stockport Council website and you need to apply online this year. We strongly advise that you look at the website and read the appropriate booklet provided in the ‘Related Documents’ section on the right hand side entitled either ‘Applying for Primary School Booklet 2013-2014’ or Applying for Secondary School Booklet 2013-2014’. There is a link on our school website to the Stockport Admissions webpage in the ‘links’ section.

Upcoming PTA events:

PTA Coffee Morning in the Community Room on Wednesday 26th September. Come along for a chat and some tea, coffee and a delicious cake – it’s a great opportunity for new reception parents to meet each other and existing parents to have a catch up! There’s no need for a ticket but there will be a collection in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support. Please come in on the morning through the Community Room door (just off the infant playground next to the reception class) anytime from 9am until 10:30am. We really hope that you can pop in.

PTA Quiz Night – the one and only! Friday 19th October at 7:30pm. Put the date in your diary and watch out for a letter about this fun PTA event for parents (and friends of parents who want to join their team) coming home soon. We’d love to see as many people as possible there.

PTA Meeting – Monday 17th September 7:30pm – 8:30pm – everyone is welcome and we’d love to see you there.

Dates for all PTA events agreed so far are shown on the attached school calendar.

The PTA have a very important role in fundraising for the school and PTA events are a great way to get involved with the school, meet other parents and have some fun!

Music Lessons (Years 4 – 6) – Music lessons start this week. Guitar lessons will be on a Wednesday this year and Mrs Yates will now be teaching the children – she comes highly recommended from the Music Service. Mr Gosling is continuing to teach woodwind and lessons will be on a Thursday as last year. If you have opted to hire a woodwind instrument from the Music Service then we have the children’s woodwind instruments in school which they can take home on Thursday (as long as you have returned the paperwork including payment).
