September - Newsletter 4 (29th September 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

An Exciting and Inspirational Week!

On Wednesday 23rd September the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport visited to officially open our PTA Trim Trail. It was lovely to be able to share the opening with children, parents and staff and the photos below give a taster of the event.

On Friday 25th September Ewan Easton MBE and Jim Muirhead from the world renowned Hallé Orchestra visited school to deliver 'Start your Day the Hallé Way'. This was a truly inspirational interactive performance for the whole school. The children participated brilliantly and both musicians commented on the children's excellent behaviour and confidence and how much they'd enjoyed their morning in our school. There was singing, playing, music teaching, a world record-breaking performance of 'Flight of The Bumble Bee' and even references to our work on having a 'Growth Mindset' - knowing that practice and effort is the key to improvement.   It was wonderful to have Ewan and Jim in school and a rare experience for the children as they are only able to work in three schools each year - it was certainly an assembly to remember.

See all of the photos from both of these events on the school website (click on the photos above for the link).

Individual Photos – Tempest Photography will be in school taking the children’s school photos on Tuesday 6th October. Please make sure that your children are in full school uniform. Photos will be taken of siblings together and then individually.

We are taking part in Stockport’s ‘My Journey to School’ project as part of the ‘Walk to School Month’. We are holding a Walk to School Fortnight between Monday 12th October and Friday 23rd October 2015. The prestigious Golden Shoe Trophy will be awarded to the top 3 schools. We hope you will be able to walk during this fortnight – it is healthier and more environmentally friendly. More information about this fortnight will come home soon from Mr Vallance who is leading the project.

It is also National Road Safety Week from 23rd November. We will be working on this with the children as we have for the last two years and this year we will also be working with the staff and children at Ramillies Hall School to help further communicate important road safety messages.

We have had a heart-warming response to the request for supplies to help the refugees in Calais – you have responded very generously, thank you. If there are any more of the bags to come in please bring them to school by Friday. The coffee morning at the church is on Monday 5th October from 9:15am to 11:30am and our choir will be there to sing and support at 10am. Churches Together in Cheadle Hulme have already promised a donation of £100 to the coffee morning to help fund the transport to Calais. During the coffee morning you can also drop off items in good/clean condition at the church to help make life a little easier for refugees during the winter months: hats, gloves, blankets/sleeping bags, car seats/carry cots, olive oil/coconut oil.

Harvest – It is also the time of year for us to support The Wellspring through our Harvest collection. Please could children bring in a food item from the attached list between Monday and Friday next week. Reverend Peacock and Emma Coe from Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church are coming in to school on Thursday to take part in our Harvest assembly with the children. Wellspring is able to use the donations of tins of food to provide meals to the homeless and people in need in Stockport throughout the year.

Children can access this from the button on our website and then by using their username and password – we will send a reminder of these home soon and the new Reception class will also receive their log-in details. All children can also access the Espresso and Curriculum Visions software which we subscribe to. Espresso has a wide range of educational games, videos and activities across all subjects and for all ages in primary school. You can also use the coding software on this site. Curriculum Visions takes you to a full online library of texts and videos covering a wide range of themes – from dinosaurs to the Romans to outer space and beyond!
