Earth Week - March 2010

Our Earth Week has been a huge success. The children have been learning about their environment, from local to global. Here are a few photographs of some of the exciting activities that have been taking place.

Children taking part in Walk to School Week have had their passports stamped at our special Passport Control desk each morning.

Children from St Simons, one of our partner schools in Stockport, came to visit for the day. The children in Years 5 and 6 enjoyed making new friends. Some of our children spent the day at Outwood Primary. It is important for our children to gain an understanding of the diversity within their local area.

Children from each class are working on our Welcome Mosaic with visiting artist Patricia Lees. It will look amazing when we display it in the school entrance.

Our recycled Earth picture is looking stunning too. Please keep sending in your bottletops - especially orange or yellow and metal tops.

The PTA School Garden has been getting a Spring makeover from our keen young gardeners. They have been digging over the rasied beds ready for planting, as well as clearing and composting dead leaves.

We made minature greenhouses from old plastic bottles. Cardboard tubes were recycled to make plant pots. We have planted different herbs.

Our class scarecrows were made from recycled materials. We will be putting them in the school garden next week!

These miniature scarecrows are just as frightening!

Class 2 performed 'The Litter Muncher' to the whole school on Tuesday morning, their parents and families on Tuesday night, and at the Infant Music Festival on Wednesday afternoon. The performances were a great success - wonderful singing, dancing and acting. Well done Class 2!

This is just a taste of some of the excting activities that have been going on at Lane End this week, developing the children's knowledge and understanding of the world that we live in.
