50th Anniversary Celebrations

We enjoyed celebrating our 50th Anniversary during a special time capsule assembly – thank you for all of the support; it was great to be joined by so many parents, past pupils and friends of the school as well as Cllr Linda Holt, the Mayor of Stockport, and Mr Phil Beswick, Stockport’s Director of Education.

Despite the rain we managed to make an event of it and then all of the children took part in our sponsored jog (with the local roads kindly closed by the council) – they all did so well and we enjoyed being cheered on along the route – thank you! We’ve received over £1600 of sponsor money so far which is an amazing total to be split between Cancer Care UK and the PTA  – thank you. The children really enjoyed our ‘street party’ celebrations in the afternoon and the PTA Picnic was also a lovely event and very well supported – thank you!

Time Capsule Ceremony

Each class had produced work to put in the time capsule - you can read more about it in the accompanying letter to Lane End Primary School 2067 here:

50th Anniversary Street Party and Burying the Time Capsule - we could only act out burying our time capsule at the ceremony in the morning as it was too rainy (the Mayor and Director of Education did a great job of acting this out with us!). However it wasn't raining during our street party in the afternoon so we did it for real then. The children had prepared the garden, where the time capsule was buried, with a 50th anniversary mural and some new planting. We all had a great time at the street party and took part in different games - with children from all year groups joining in together.

Alice in Wonderland

Our Junior children put on an amazing performance of 'Alice in Wonderland' with Year 3, 4 and 5 forming the choir and Year 6 taking the main roles. The children sang superbly and the acting was wonderful! Well done all!

'Alice in Wonderland' was one of Lane End Primary School's first ever productions and so was a very fitting performance for our 50th Anniversary.

Come and Play with the Halle and Infant Choir Festival

Our musicians and junior choir had a wonderful experience at the Bridgwater Hall at the ‘Come and Play with the Halle’ event.

Our infant choir were also in action at Stockport Town Hall singing at the Infant Choir Festival and sang beautifully.

Sports Days

Our Sports Days went really well and the children took part brilliantly. Thank you for the support. The overall team winners were Robins in the infants and Kingfishers in the Juniors. There were many individual successes in our finals too.

Jenny Meadows - 800m champion at Lane End

It was fantastic to have athlete Jenny Meadows in school. She led an inspirational assembly about working hard to achieve your personal best – in athletics and sport but also in school work and all of the challenges we face in life. Thank you to Jenny Meadows and also to Dean Hardman, who works for England Athletics and is Hermione in Year 1’s dad, who organised the assembly. Dean has also offered the free tickets to the Manchester International athletics which were mentioned in a recent newsletter (click here) – please get your slip back to school soon if you would like to receive these free tickets.

The children were enthralled during the assembly and Jenny commented on their excellent behaviour and attitude – she was also very impressed to see so many children choosing healthy ways to travel to school in the morning.

Cycle to School Week and our Slow Bike Race

We have had a great take up during our Tour de Lane End Cycle to School Week – well done to everyone who has taken part; cycling to school come rain or shine! Our slow bike race was a fun way to finish off the week. Thank you to Mr Vallance and his Year 4 commissaires for organising the week and the slow bike race.
