September/Newsletter2

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children have started the new academic year very well and we are also very pleased with how well our new Reception children are settling in.

Please find attached a list of useful dates for the year. These are also available on our website in the ‘Parents’ section.

Class Assembly Dates

Each class holds two assemblies during the year for the parents/relatives of that class to attend and we’d love to see you there. These usually take place at 10:10am. The class assembly dates organised for this term are listed below:

Year 4 - Thursday 17th October*, Year 3 Assembly – Thursday 7th November, Year 5 Assembly – Wednesday 20th November, Year 6 Assembly – Thursday 28th November (all at 10:10am).

*Harvest Assembly - although the Year 4 children are delivering our Harvest Assembly to their parents this year (I’m afraid that parents from other year groups won’t be able to watch due to space limitations) all children throughout the school can bring in tins, packets of food etc. for our Harvest Assembly from Friday 4th October. These will go to The Wellspring Kitchen who support the homeless in Stockport. Thank you for your support in anticipation.

There will be a PTA coffee morning on the morning of each assembly starting at 9am. So if you’ve just done drop off you can wait for the assembly in the comfort of the community room with a drink! All parents are welcome to each coffee morning (i.e. not just the parents of the children involved in the assembly).

The Class Curriculum Bookletswill be coming home for children in Years 1 – 6 next week (Reception already have theirs). Please keep these as a reference for throughout the year. The VLE booklet is also coming home for all classes next week – however if you can already use your child’s existing username and password and each class now has an updated VLE page. To access our VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) click on the link from our website.

Visit to Zambiafollowing the visit from 3 Zambian headteachers last term, Mr Vallance is going to travel to Zambia for a week from 27th September and visit their schools, learn about their culture and bring back his tales and photos to talk to the children about. This is part of our ‘connecting classrooms’ link. Mr Vallance will be able to take the children’s video messages, questions and letters with him (as well as Barnaby Bear!) and we look forward to learning more about Zambian school and life.

Smiles Book and Good Work Book Sticker Competition

We are having a competition to design a sticker which will be produced to reward those children who are entered into our Smiles Book (infants) or Good Work Book (juniors). Each week teachers choose children who have been working really hard, showing great effort, producing excellent work or displaying a great attitude or behaviour to be entered into these special class books. We celebrate this each Friday in assembly and the children come to the front of the hall to share or talk about their work. After discussion with the children in assembly, we felt that a special sticker, designed by a child from Lane End would be a good idea and also help the children to remember to tell you about it when they got home! I’ve already had lots of great entries in but we will extend the deadline until Monday to give anyone who still has theirs at home and wants a go a chance to bring it in – if your child would like to take part but doesn’t already have an entry form you can click on to this newsletter on our website where there is a downloadable copy!

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely, James Twigg
