December - Newsletter 10 (6th December 2013)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas is Coming!

We’re very much looking forward to the Infant Christmas Production next week. There are more tickets available for infant parents for the Monday afternoon performance at 2pm – please contact the office if you’d like some extra. The children have been learning about the Christmas story this week through their visit to Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church and experiencing the Christmas Trail which is truly stunning. Some of our Year 5 and 6 musicians played at the Christmas Market in Cheadle Hulme precinct this morning and did a great job. We also have our Junior Carol Concert on the last Thursday of the term. Our choir have been very busy and sang beautifully at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church on Sunday evening and at St George’s Church on Tuesday evening. These were lovely events for the school to be involved in and a big thank you to Abi Downing and Sandra Parker who have been leading our choir. We would love to expand the choir further, so if there are more interested children please sign up after the Christmas holidays when the letter comes home.

Class Christmas parties will be in the last week of term and I will send a note or newsletter home explaining these next week. It is the school Christmas Lunch next Thursday (12th December) so children who normally have a packed lunch but have ordered a school lunch on this day don’t need their sandwiches! We have now ordered the food so I’m afraid we can’t take any more requests for Christmas lunch. All children are invited to bring in a cracker for lunchtime next Thursday to add to the festive feel.

As it is the Infant Production next Tuesday we will need to finish the Junior Sports Stars session early so that children can get themselves sorted out and we can set up the hall. We will finish the session at 4:30pm and I’d recommend that infant children be picked up then to get home and have something to eat before the show. Junior children can stay and do a quiz with the coaches for the rest of the session, otherwise they can also be picked up at 4:30pm.

The PTA Christmas Fair was a great success raising almost £2500 which will directly benefit all of the children at Lane End. Thank you again to the PTA for their hard work organising and to everyone who helped, supported with our non-uniform days and came to the fair, it’s very much appreciated.

Staff News – It is Mrs Chamberlain’s last day today before her maternity leave and we wish her all the best. The class will be ably covered by Mrs Batho (Mon-Thurs) and Mrs Cookson (Fri) who already know the children very well.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
