June - Newsletter 22 (14th June 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the second half of the summer term! There is always a lot going on at school to engage and inspire the children during this half term and I have included a calendar on the reverse of this newsletter. Some of the events relate to the whole school and some to specific clubs, classes or groups of classes – some of the events need further explanation and, if you have not already received a letter about an event which your child is involved in, more information will come home in good time to let you know the details/give permissions etc.

Sports Days – our Junior Sports Day was planned for next Monday. However, as the field is already very soggy from the huge amount of rain we have had recently and as the rain is still coming down, we think that it is unlikely that the field will be fit for use on Monday. In addition to this, we need to carry out the heats before sports day, which also requires use of the field. We have therefore made the early decision to move the Junior Sports Day to the morning of Monday 4th July. We hope that it is useful to parents to have this early notification. We hope to go ahead with the Infant Sports Day as planned on Monday 27th June. A letter is coming home about the Infant Sports Day today and a letter will come home about the Junior Sports Day in good time for the event.  We very much hope that we are able to go ahead on these days and that we can all enjoy the sports days – parents and relatives are warmly invited to join us. Whilst it is always a difficult decision and we don’t like cancelling at short notice, sometimes it is necessary due to weather or field conditions; if this is necessary we will use our text messaging service and put signs up outside school for parents. We haven’t set reserve dates as we have found that it is better to look at the weather forecast at the time and decide on which day looks most promising which doesn’t clash with another school event!

Class Photograph – these are coming home today and the latest return date for ordering is Monday 20th June (next Monday). There is a small proof on your order form – if you would like to see the full version it is up in the school entrance. We hope you are pleased with the pictures.

Parent Pay – we are pleased to let you know that we have started to make arrangements for online payments to school via the Parent Pay system. This is something that parents have asked about in the past and has also come up on our parent questionnaire. The system is now at a point which means a small school like ours can afford to take it up. It allows parents to pay for school dinners, trips, music lessons and all other payments to school via a secure website which is used by schools across the country. Parents/carers will be able to register later in July and we will start using it fully in September. Parents of children at the high school will already be familiar with Parent Pay and we will be sending home more information about it soon.

Football – I am aware that the end of the school day on Thursday clashes with the second half of an important football match (England – Wales). Any parents who are picking up from school and who are keen not to miss the end of the match can come in to the school hall with their child after school to see it on the big screen. Junior Sports Stars football club and some of the teachers will be watching it with you! Any junior children who walk home from school and wish to stay (it should finish approx 3:45pm) can bring a note in from their parents to their teacher giving permission.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
