March - Newsletter 17 (18th March 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Well done to our Country Dancers who did a fantastic job at representing the school on Monday night at the Country Dance Festival at the Town Hall. Mrs Chamberlain and Mrs Batho were really pleased with how well all of the children did – showing great team work, growth mindset and really enjoying the evening.

Our Choir will also be representing the school at the Town Hall on Monday evening next week at the Stockport Junior School’s Choir Concert. They did a great job of performing some of the songs to the school in assembly this morning too.

Cycle to School – Mr Vallance has organised a cycle to school week for next week culminating in the ‘Lane End Bike Crawl’ on Friday – a slow bike race where the last across the line is the winner! Spot prizes will be given each day to children (and adults) who cycle to school during the week. If your child cycles to school please make sure that they are wearing a cycle helmet and know how to cycle safely. If there is not enough room in the bike racks for all of the bikes then they can also be placed at the front of the school by the entrance, and if we need to there is also space round the side at the back of the school. Please remember that bikes and scooters should not be used on the playground before and after school as it is too busy with parents collecting children.

We have talked about Friday’s partial solar eclipse in assembly. The eclipse is taking place between approx. 8:45am and 10:40am and the maximum eclipse, when the moon is nearest the middle of the sun, will be at 9.31am. We have some pinhole cameras and colanders which can be used to safely view the eclipse by projecting an image and we will also show ‘Stargazing Live’ on BBC2 which is tracking the moon’s journey across the sun. I am sure you know and will reinforce with your children that it is important that children (and adults) never look directly at the sun as it can damage eyesight.

PTA meeting – the next meeting is tonight (Wednesday 18th March) at 7:30pm. Everyone is invited and we’d love to see you there.

Mr Toyne is putting together a booklet to send home about our reading for writing week – with pictures, writing, quotes from children and parents etc. Any more feedback from parents would be appreciated. Please just fill in the slip below and send it back into school – thank you.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
