Reading for Pleasure

We are all talking about how much fun it is to read and how much you can get from reading a good book.

Our brand new library, which was funded by the PTA, looks fantastic and the new Junior Librarian online library catalogue makes it easy to find good books to read in the school library even when you're at home!  

Tommy Donbavand, who writes the Scream Street books, visited school for the day. He did some great work with all of the children. The infants worked on writing a story together using a ‘Story Map’ and acted it out at the end! The Juniors worked with Tommy on developing story characters and getting ideas for stories. It was a brilliant day and Tommy enjoyed it too. He emailed to say: Just a quick email to thank everyone at Lane End for a wonderful day on Friday.  It really was one of my favourite school visits; everyone - staff and pupils alike - were so enthusiastic and friendly.  If only every author event was the same!

Steve Hartley, author of 'Oliver Fibbs - Attack of the Alien Brain' and 'Danny Baker Silly Olympics', also came into school to work on writing techniques with the children. He came on Red Nose Day when all of the children were wearing something funny for money. This was perfect timing as he was very funny and dressed as Captain Underpants!

We have some lovely new books for each class too which were delivered in beautiful parcels for each class to open together.

World Book Day and Grand Library Opening

We had a fantastic World Book Day which included a special assembly and the official opening of our school library by Mrs Sangster from the PTA. Everyone looked amazing dressed up as book characters or being 'socktastic' (one of the books we were looking at was 'Socks' by Nick Sharratt and Elizabeth Lindsay)!
